General Managers Update - February 2018

08/02/2018

2018 is well underway and our golf course is looking amazing thanks to a relatively dry summer period where the grass just hasn’t got out of control like it can. I hope you have been able to get down and enjoy the course. Its hard to even remember the way our course was last April when you play it these days.

Price Increase at Bar on selected items

Members please note that from the 8 February that we have increased some of our items in the bar and kitchen. Importantly this is not a blanket increase and some items have not been effected. We did not raise our prices 12 months ago and have absorbed the increases from our suppliers over the last few years. Whilst keeping our prices as low as possible is important you would also be aware that cost of goods and labour costs continue to increase.

Rather than increase our products by awkward amounts such as 10 or 20 cents our preference is to hold on to prices for a few years and make one larger increase when absolutely necessary. This keeps product pricing at generally the 50c or full dollar amount which we find is easier for both the customer and the staff as no-one really likes getting too much silver.

We would also like to note that members receive a 10% loyalty bonus on beverage purchases at the bar which provides a significant benefit over time if you hand your card to the staff at the time of purchase.

Whilst any price increase is obviously unpopular please note that we have given much thought and review on every item before making the increase or in some cases refraining from doing so.

2nd Hole Update

Course Superintendent Brett Thomson provides an update on the 2nd in his report but everything is on track for an opening in late March.

Shark Shootout

Congratulations to Barry Shepherd (The Grand) for taking out the inaugural Shark Shootout on the 31 January with a round of 69 to win by 2 shots.

Shepherd qualified for the final in 6th position after playing 5 of the events in 2017 and finishing with 590 points in the Fedex Cup style event.

The Final saw the leading 30 players from the Order Of Merit all playoff for the inaugural Shark Shootout Winner Title. Finalists all received a special edition cap for the event. The 2018 event is now underway with the 1st event held on the 31 January.

LEADERBOARD - SHARK SHOOTOUT

Summer Cup

Congratulations to Greg Wain and Melissa Mason for their recent wins in the 2018 Summer Cup. Greg won the Men’s section with rounds of 63 and 71 for a 36 hole total of 134 which was one in front of Lee Cranswick who came home strong with a 62. Melissa Mason won by 6 shots from another Melissa, Melissa Lenz. Unfortunately the wet weather on round 2 had an impact on the field but thank you to all members for competing over the two weeks.

Frank Browne

The Club proudly hosted the funeral service and wake for Frank Browne on Tuesday 6 February. With over 100 attendees it was an emotional day for many. Our thoughts are with Frank’s family and friends as they move on to life without Frank.

Shelter at the Members’ Practice Area

For those members that utilise the practice area you will have noticed that we now have a very impressive shelter that has been constructed, thanks to member Mike Phelan. The shelter will provide relief from the sun and the rain for those members, as well as our expanding junior programs. We hope you enjoy.

Putting Green Stablisation

Many of you may have noticed the work we have done on the practice green after a 6 metre section slid into the lake following some heavy rain in early January. It was a difficult job but we have now stabilised the bank. We now have a little bit of work to restore the green and surrounding areas. You will have also noticed that we are doing a similar process with the 11th to arrest the erosion in this area which has became a safety issue. This will continue over the coming weeks.

Social Club Raffles are on again

For those members playing Saturdays you will have noticed the Social Club Raffles are back. Some changes have been made in 2018 with reduced ticket costs and they are also offering 8 prizes to give you more chances of winning. The results are displayed just to the right of the front door.

Well that's about from me. Get out there and enjoy your course and Club.

If you have any ideas or suggestions my door is always open.
